Bataan engineer unveils ‘unsinkable speedboat’
Manila Bulletin12 Apr 2018By MAR T. SUPNAD
MARIVELES, Bataan – A local inventor is inviting no less than President Duterte and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana see for themselves and consider acquiring for the military the “unsinkable” speedboat he designed and developed and is manufacturing inside the Freeport Area of Bataan ( FAB).
A known naval architect and marine engineer, Realito Rubia of this town has invented inside his yard here the unsinkable speedboat that was specially designed for multiple purposes and which can withstand heavy artillery attack.
“I am inviting our President to personally witness our locally invented and assembled boat that can be used by our Philippine Navy, Maritime police, Bantay Dagat in patrolling our coastal areas and running after lawless elements at high seas,” said Rubia.
Lorenzana earlier said that the Department of National Defense (DND) is thinking of acquiring smaller gunboats instead of bulkier warships, considering the country’s archipelagic state.
Rubia is now coordinating with the local police for guns and 1,000 live bullets that will be fired simultaneously at the boat to prove its supposed invincibility.
He said he wants Duterte, a know gun enthusiast and Gov. Abet Garcia to lead the firing of guns against the boat.
“We will fire our guns simultaneously at the boat and the 1,000 rounds of bullets cannot sink it,” Rubia told this writer.
Rubia pointed out, however, that the bullets can still penetrate and pierce through the boat and its gas tank, but that the bullet holes will be “selfhealing” as a result of a one-of-a-kind material, which he did not specify.
Rubia is into assembling and repairing internationally and locally made yachts and speedboats at the Freeport Area of Bataan.
Most of his clients are Europeans and Asians, including wealthy Filipinos.
