On its Facebook page, a certain post of STCW Office ends with a good news to Filipino seafarers. It reads,
(The) STCW Office will soon be conducting a free STCW 101 orientation among all seafarers at the MARINA Office.
We would like to commend Westminster Seafarer Management Philippines, Inc. for inviting STCW Office to conduct the “Familiarization on STCW 101” on February 7, 2018. Westminster is the first manning agent to request the STCW 101 seminar.
This is one of the many joint activities that MARINA is conducting in partnership with all industry stakeholders to further promote, improve and develop the seafaring industry. STCW Office will soon be conducting a free STCW 101 orientation among all seafarers at the MARINA Office.
The aforecited STCW is acronym of the International Convention for Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, as amended. This is one of the several international maritime regulations which the Philippines is a signatory of, and vowed to observe.
Seemingly, the basics will be discussed during the free orientation. We commend the MARINA Office for this new inititiative. Indeed, it can help our seafarers understand deeper what the STCW Convention is all about. 👏
But due to many trainings they bear to complete while on vacation, our seafarer friends are usually clamoring, sobrang dami na ng mga trainings. Bawasan sana ang mga trainings habang kami ay nasa bakasyon para mas lalo naming makasama ang aming pamilya. 😞
On this connection, our mateys might ignore the orientation, and would rather spend time with their families.
Nevertheless, we still would like to know if other seafarers are interested to attend MARINA’s STCW 101 free seminar in case it will be pursued sooner or later.
